FAQs

How do I get to the island?

The distance from Bali to the Gili islands is only about 95km. The main transport option to get to the Gilis Islands from Bali is by fast boat. These boats leave from Serangan, Padang Bai and Amed in Bali.

How do I get to Sol Villas from the harbour?

The best way is to take a cidamo (horse and cart) to Sol Villas. They will be waiting at the harbour for you and generally cost between 150k - 200k IDR. Alternatively if you do not have much luggage you can take an 8 minute walk or hire a bike from a vendor at the harbour.

How do I get around the island?

The only modes of transport on the island are cycling, walking or taking a cidamo. There are no motorised vehicles on the island, however it is very simple to navigate and you will be able to walk around the island in approximately one hour as Gili Air has an area of 1.73 km², and it has a circumference of just under 5 km.  It takes around 20 minutes to cross from one side of the island to the other.

How do I book a snorkeling or dive trip?

There is no need to prebook a trip before you get to Gili Air. There is excellent snorkelling just off the beach , you can walk to the top and float back, simply hire a snorkle and fin from a local vendor on the beach.

There are always small boats available that will take you to further sites for longer. Please ask our staff to organise for you once you arrive on the island.

What restaurants are best and close by?

Sol Villas is in an excellent location, only a short walk to some of our favourite island eats. Some favourites that we recommend are Mama Pizza, for authentic Italian pizza and pasta. Mowie's for their healthy, delicious menu and the best sunset spot on the island and Ruby's for the best Indonesian food you will find on all three islands and Lombok combined.

Can I exchange money on the island? Are there ATMs?

Yes, there are many money exchanges around the island and multiple ATM machines. Most restaurants will take EFTPOS. Please ask our staff for locations of the ATMs once on the island.
